WHY I RUN

My running journey started when I was 16 years of age and wanted to continue to build my cardiovascular fitness. I spent my teen years competitively swimming and always put myself under the ‘I’m not a runner’ umbrella, never really dedicating time to improving at my technique or following a progressive plan. I didn’t feel natural, I always felt slow, I always got stitches and didn’t know how, I didn’t wear running clothes that kept me warm or I felt comfortable in. I ran to keep fit and that’s it. I ran for my mental wellbeing. But the other day during a run, I was listing out all the reasons why I run. So I wanted to share them with you in hope that it would inspire some of you to get out and run:

  • I run for my mental wellbeing

  • I run to see sunrises

  • I run to to sunsets

  • I run to catch up and meet friends

  • I run for that treat at the end - pastry, coffee, whatever I fancy that day

  • I run for my cardiovascular strength

  • I run to keep my lungs healthy during a time of a respiratory virus

  • I run to be in nature

  • I run to discover new nooks and crannies in my local area

  • I run when I’m on holiday to sightsee

  • I run to make new friends

  • I run to inspire my son to run

  • I run to sort out all my thoughts

  • I run to stay healthy and help keep a strong immune system

  • I run for that amazing feeling you get at the end

  • I run for the views

  • I run to listen to all my favourite music

  • I run to feel proud I am achieving something

  • I run during times of heart ache, changes in my life.

  • I run so I can enter triathlon and run events which I love

  • I run with my dog as his daily walk

  • I run with my baby son in the buggy, as part of the nursery drop off

  • I run because I want to show my son the important of having interests, and health and fitness.

I run because it makes me feel amazing x
